In my previous blog, I wrote about Jio Meet and its branding strategies to attract a large customer base. After reading the below sentence

You don’t need a personal brand. You’re better off being useful.

I realized society had a very different opinion for a long time-who cares about their brand. So here I just wanted to list out a few points to prove that this perspective is wrong.

It comes from passion, goals, and skills. Personal branding is a result of a person’s hunt for fulfillment. When I say building a personal brand, it’s more of accurately presenting a gift without exaggeration. Adding irrelevant skills to their profile and misleading a group of people is not personal branding.

1. Let’s look at this from an Employer perspective:

Nowadays, most employers use social media to screen candidates during the hiring process, and it is also beneficial from the employer’s perspective.

For instance, When employees represent their company at conferences or events, they develop themselves and provide more exposure, which adds more value to the organization.

Also, they are helping to acquire new customers and retaining existing customers when they are viewed as trustworthy thought leaders. Sounds lovely right? I could say this is a win-win situation for both sides.

2. Let’s look at this from an employee perspective:

As culture, language, and traditions change with time, so will the brains and bodies that make up the world's consumers. As long as you have an eye on your target, you will lead a better life.

And it always helps you to stand out from the crowd; this allows a person to grow to become something that they believe. In addition, it helps in gaining recognition in their area of expertise.

It also helps a person build connections in different fields and their areas of specialty. Finally, and most importantly, it allows them to build trust and credibility; you can’t get these two things without telling the world the amount of knowledge you possess.

There is nothing wrong with telling the world that you are good at something. However, I think these are the reasons why people pretend that they don’t need Personal branding:

  • Building a personal brand is not going to happen overnight.
  • It requires a lot of effort, time, consistency, and genuineness.
  • It’s imperative to communicate the purpose and mission to their audience in a genuine way.

But most people are not ready to follow any of the points mentioned earlier. So the next option they have is spreading negative thoughts about Personal branding.

Simply put, even a tiny baby cries to get attention from his/her mother to see her face. At some point, we all need some branding to meet someone’s expectations or achieve something we love.
